But why magnesium?

Magnesium is an essential mineral for nearly every system in the human body.  Over half of the magnesium in your body is found in the bones of the skeleton.  The rest is found in the soft tissues and organs.  It is difficult to test for a deficiency because the body will always maintain a certain concentration in the blood.

Too little magnesium in the blood will allow calcium to act unimpeded on the smooth muscle of the heart and can lead to cardiovascular disease.  The body will steal this magnesium from the skeleton, muscles, and other organs in order to maintain a proper blood concentration.  Thus, a blood test will usually show a normal level of magnesium, but it does not tell you the whole story.

Also, many of the foods we eat contain less magnesium than they used to due to modern processing and chemicals used to treat our produce.  These chemicals leach the magnesium from our food and from our body after we ingest them.  Unfortunately, organic products don't provide much relief as the soil itself has been leached of magnesium due the runoff from other farms that use glyphosate and other chemicals.

Magnesium deficiency can have symptoms such as:

  • weakness

  • fatigue

  • muscle spasms & tightness

  • eye twitches

  • abnormal heart rhythms (such as the feeling that your heart is "skipping a beat")

It can also lead or contribute to:

  • panic attacks/anxiety

  • osteoporosis

  • asthma

  • diabetes

  • hypertension

  • nervous system disorders

  • among many other issues.

Our float cabins contains 1,100 pounds of magnesium sulfate (epsom salt), which is the solute that makes you float.  During your time in the cabin, your body will absorb the magnesium it needs through the skin.  Absorption is the best way to supplement with magnesium because it is not affected by other foods and medications in the same way that dietary magnesium is.

This is the primary reason for many of the benefits listed above.  There are over 3,500 magnesium binding sites on proteins throughout the systems of the human body, which control and catalyze a wide variety of body processes.

Why not get such an important  mineral in the most relaxing way possible?
